| The No 70 was designed to replace the mills 36m as it was found that delay fuzed grens in the hilly combat conditions in the far east were a danger as they would frequently roll back down hill after throwing causing casualtys among friendly troops. It was decided an impact fuzed fragmentation grenade was needed and the No70 was born. The mk1 was experimental and not issued to troops, The mk2 was issued in small numbers in Burma for trials and based on these the mk3 was finalised. the mk1 and 2 had a filling hole on the side but this was done away with in the mk3. The body is made from cast iron and the top fuze holder is Mazac. According to the manuals the fuze should be a 247 Mk3 but this drill gren has a Mk2. |
