How to make a cutaway 2ww german Egg Grenade
Here is a really rusty and pitted 2ww German egg grenade. Ideal for making into a sectioned Grenade. The body is fairly solid but has a few holes where it has rusted through. The Cap is very rusty and the threads are gone but the fuze cord is ok and the rest of the fuze is in good condition,
First thing to do is to start cleaning off all the rust and try to get the grenade back to bare metal. Here the bottom half is done.
I used a rotary multi head tool with a sanding attachment. This took about 10 minutes.
Next stage is to mark out the area you want to remove. Here i have used a felt tip marker to show the area which will be cut away. This was the worst side with a few holes in it.
I changed over the head of the rotary tool to a small grinding disc and proceeded to cut away the marked area. Take your time here and make sure you are wearing safety goggles  (Top Tip of the day.)
Here is the body with about a third removed. The inside was in great condition The outside needed a small amount of body filler to get rid of the pitting
Follow the same steps to cut away the Cap and fuze parts. I have added an empty copper det tube to finish off the fuze.
I then filed the edges to give a smooth surface
Almost finished. Here the sectioned parts have been given a coat of yellow paint on the insides and Red on the cut edges. The outside is painted  dark green.
Its done !
I have re-assembled the fuze parts and fitted the fuze well back in to the grenade body with the aid of some trusty Super glue. As the threads on the cap were rusted away i have had to glue the cap in place.
From a rusty relic i now have a great sectioned grenade well worth displaying.
I hope i have inspired some of you to have a go yourself.
Cheers,  Paul.
